Saptha Sloki Gita

[These seven slokas in this order from Bhagawad Gita has been published by Gita press, Gorakpur, in their collection of stotras called Stotra Ratnavali. It is supposed to represent in a nutshell the teachings contained in the 700 slokas of Bhagawad Gita. I understand that this Saptha Sloki Gita is being recited as a daily prayer by the Kashmiri Pundits for hundrerds of years.]

Bhagawan Uvacha:Om ithyaksharam Brahma,Vyaharan maam anusmaran,Ya prayathi thyajan deham,Sa Yathi Pramamam gathim.

1 (8-13)The God said:He who, meditates on me,As Om, which in Brahman,While leaving this ephemeral body,Will surely attain the most supreme state.Arjuna Uvacha:Sthane Hrisikesa, Thava prakeerthya,Jagath prahrushthya anurajyathe cha,Rakshamsi bheethani diso dravanthi,Sarve namasyanthi cha sidha sangha.

2 (11-36)Arjuna said:In this state, Oh Lord, Singing about you.The world is happy and is rejoicing,To see the evil ones flying away with fear,And all those devoted ones saluting you.[This is told after seeing the Viswa Roopa of the Lord.]Bhagawan Uvacha:Sarvatha pani padam thath,Sarvatho akshi siro mukham,Sarvatha sruthimalloke,Sarvamavithya thishtahi.

3 (13-14)The God said:It has hands and legs everywhere,It has eyes head and mouth everywhere,It has ears everywhere in this world,And it exists as every thing in this world.Kavim purana anusasithara-Manoramaneeyaam samanusmaredhya,Sarvasya dhataram machinthya roopa-Madithya varnam thamasa parasthath.

4 (8-9)Think of Him, as ancient, spread everywhere,Ruler of all, much subtler part of an atom, Protector of all with his form which is beyond thought,With the colour of Sun and transcendental beyond dark thoughts.Oordhwamoolamadha sakham,Aswatham prahooravyayam,Chandamsi yasya parnani,Yastham Veda sa Vedavith.

5 (15-1)With roots above and branches Growing down,This Banyan tree with Vedas as its leaves,Is everlasting and immortal, And whosoever knows it, really knows the Vedas.Sarvasya chaham, hrudhi sannivishto,Matha smrithir jnana mapohanam cha,Vedaischa sarvaii, rahameva Vedhyo,Vedanthakruth veda vidheva chaham.

6 (15-15)I live in everybody’s heart,And from me one gets,Memory, wisdom and forgetfulness,And for all the Vedas, I am the one that is to be known,For I created them and I am the one who knows them.Manmana bhava Mad bhaktho,Madhyajee maam Namakuru,Mamevaishyasi sathyam they,Prathijane priyo asi may.

7 (18-65)Concentrate your mind on me,Always show devotion to me,Sacrifice for me, salute me,And I swear to you because you are dear to me,That definitely you will reach me.

Vande nava Ghana syamam, peetha kouseya vasasam,Sanandam sundaram shudham, Sri Krishnam prakruthe param। I bow before that Sri Krishna,Who is as black as the new cloud,Who wears cloths made of yellow silk,Who is pretty, happy and clean,And who is beyond nature.Radhesam Radhika prana vallabham, vallavee sutham,Radha sevitha padabjam, Radha vaksha sthala sthiham. Radhanugam Radhikesam Radhanuka manasam,Radhadharam 

bhavadharam sarvadharam namami tham. ३ I salute him who is the basis of everything,Who is the Lord of Radha,Who is the king of the soul of Radha,Who is the son of Yasodha,Whose feet is served by Radha,Who resides in the breast of Radha,Who accompanies Radha,Who is the God of Radha,Whose mind is attracted by Radha,Who takes care of Radha,And who takes care of the burden of our life।Radha hruth padma madhye cha vasantham santhatham shubham,Radha saha charam saswadradagna paripalakam, 4 Dhyayanthe yogino yogath sidha, sidheswarascha yam,Tham dhyayeth santhatham shudham bhagawantham sanathanam. 5 I always meditate on that pure God,Who always lives in the lotus of heart of Radha,Who is ever pretty and always does good,Who is the companion of Radha,Who always obeys the wishes of Radha,Who is remembered by yogis through yoga,Who is remembered by experts in occult by their powers,And who is without any death or destruction.Sevantha sathatham santho brahmesa sesha samgnaka,Sevanthe nirgunam brahma bhagawantham sanathanam, 6 Nirliptham cha nireham cha paramanandameeswaram,Nithyam sathyamcha paramam bhagawantham sanathanam, 7 Yam sreshteradhi bhoothancha sarva bheejam parath param,Yoginastham prapadhyanthe bhagawantham sanathanam, 8 Bheejam nanavatharanam sarva karana karanam,Vedha vedhyam veda bheejam Veda karana karanam. 9 The great saints attain the perennial God,Who is served always by Gods like Brahma and Shiva,Who is of the form of truth without properties,Who is perennial and not related to anything,Who does not have desires but is the form of pure bliss,Who always exists, who is the truth and who is beyond the mind,Who existed before creation and created everything,Who is the ultimate root of all incarnations,Who is the cause of all causes,Who cannot be adequately described by Vedas,And who is the root and cause of all Vedas.

Durga Chalisa Namo Namo Durge Sukh karani,Namo Namo ambe Dukh harani.Nirakar hai jyoti tumhari,Tihun lok pheli ujayari.Shashi lalat mukh mahavishala,Netra lal bhrikutee vikarala.

Roop Matu ko adhika suhave,Daras karat jan ati sukh pave.Tum sansar shakti laya kina,Palan hetu anna dhan dina.


Annapurna hui jag pala,Tumhi adi sundari Bala.Pralaya kala sab nashan hari,Tum gauri Shiv-Shankar pyari.Shiv yogi tumhre guna gaven,Brahma Vishnu tumhen nit dhyaven.


Roop Saraswati ko tum dhara,De subuddhi rishi munina ubara.Dharyo roop Narsimha ko amba,Pragat bhayin phar kar khamba.Raksha kari Prahlaad bachayo,Hiranakush ko swarga pathayo.


Lakshmi roop dharo jag mahin,Shree Narayan anga samihahin.Ksheer sindhu men karat vilasa,Daya Sindhu, deeje man asa.Hingalaja men tumhin Bhavani,Mahima amit na jet bakhani.



Matangi Dhoomavati Mata,Bhuvneshwari bagala sukhdata.Shree Bhairav lara jog tarani, Chhinna Bhala bhav dukh nivarani.Kehari Vahan soh Bhavani,Langur Veer Chalat agavani.Kar men khappar khadag viraje,Jako dekh kal dan bhaje.


Sohe astra aur trishoola,Jase uthata shatru hiya shoola.Nagarkot men tumhi virajat,Tihun lok men danka bajat.Shumbhu Nishumbhu Danuja tum mare,Rakta-beeja shankhan samhare.Mahishasur nripa ati abhimani,Jehi agha bhar mahi akulani.Roop karal Kalika dhara,Sen Sahita tum tin samhara.



Pan garha Santan par jab jab,Bhayi sahaya Matu tum tab tab.Amarpuni aru basava loka,Tava Mahirna sab rahen asoka.Jwala men hai jyoti tumhari,Tumhen sada poojen nar nari.Prem bhakti se Jo yash gave,Dukh-daridra nikat nahin ave.Dhyave tumhen jo nar man laee,Janam-maran tako chuti jaee.Jogi sur-muni kahat pukari,Jog na ho bin shakti tumhari.



Shankar Aacharaj tap keenhon,Kam, krodha jeet sab leenhon.Nisidin dhyan dharo Shankar ko,Kahu kal nahini sumiro tum ko.Shakti roop ko maran na payo,Shakti gayi tab man pachitayo.



Sharnagat hui keerti bakhani,Jai jai jai Jagdamb Bhavani.Bhayi prasanna Aadi Jagdamba,Dayi shakti nahin keen vilamba.Mokon Matu kashta ati ghero,Tum bin kaun hare dukh mero.Aasha trishna nipat sataven,Moh madadik sab binsaven.Shatru nash keeje Maharani,Sumiron ekachita tumhen Bhavani.Karo kripa Hey Matu dayala,Riddhi-Siddhi de karahu nihala.



Jab lagi jiyoon daya phal paoon,Tumhro yash men sada sunaoon.Durga Chalisa jo gave,Sab sukh bhog parampad pave.

I bow to You O Goddess Durga, the bestower of happiness! I bow to You O Goddess Amba, who Ends all miseries.The radiance of your light is limitless and all pervading and all the threerealms (Earth, Heaven And the Nether World) are enlightened by Thee.Your face is like the moon and mouth very huge.


Your eyes shine with a red glow and You have a Frightening frown.O Mother! Your look is enchanting, the very sight of which ensures welfareof the devout.


All the powers of the World repose in Thee and it is You who provide food and wealth for the World's survival.Like the feeding Mother Annapoorna, You nurture the whole universe and You are the one Who appear like the timeless Bala Sundari (young girl of extreme beauty).


At the time of dissolution, it is You, O Mother, who destroys everything. You are the beloved Consort of Lord Shiva, Gauri (Parvati). Lord Shiva and all yogis always chant your praise Brahma, Vishnu and all other Gods ever meditate on You.


You appear in the form of Goddess Saraswati too,to grant wisdom to the sages and thus ensure their Welfare.O Mother Amba! It was You who appeared in the form of Narsimha, sundering the pillar.


Thus You saved Prahlad and Hiranyakashyap also went to Heaven as he was killed by your Hands.In the form of Goddess Lakshmi, O Mother, you appear in this world and repose by the side of Shree Narayan.Dwelling in the ocean of milk, O Goddess, with Lord Vishnu, please fulfill my desires.


O Bhavani, the famous Goddess of Hingalaja is no one else but You Yourself. Illimitable is your Glory, defying description.You are yourself Matangi and Dhoomavati Mata.



It is You who appear as Bhuvaneshwari and Bagalamukhi Devi to bestow happiness to all.It is You who redeem the wolrd, appearing in the form of Shree Bhairavi, Taradevi and Chhinnamasta Devi, and end its sorrows.Reposing gracefully uopn your vehicle, O Goddess Bhavani, You are welcome by the brave Langour (Lord Hanuman).When You appear in the form of Goddess Kali, with sword in one hand and a cupel in the other, Even Time flees in panic.Beholding You, well armed, with a Trident in your hand, the enemy's heart aches with the sting Of fear.You also repose in the form of Devi at Nagarkot in Kangara.


Thus all the three realms shudder in the might of your glory.You slayed the demons like Shumbh & Nishumb and massacred the thousand forms of the dreaded Demon Raktabeej.When the earth was severely distressed bearing the load of the sins of the arrogant Mahishasur.You assumed the dreadful form of Goddess Kali and massacred him along with his army. Thus, whenever the noble saints were distressed, it is You O Mother, who came to their rescue.


All the realms including the Amarpuri (divine realm) remain sorrow-less and happy by Your Grace. O Goddess!It is the symbol of Your glory that is burning brightly at Shree JwalaJi. All me and women Ever worship You, O Mother!He who sings Your glory with devotion, love, and sincerity remains beyond the reach of grief And poverty.He who meditates upon Your form with concentration goes beyond the cycle of births and deaths.


All the yogis, gods and sages openly declare that without your favour one can't establish communion with God.Shankaracharya had performed once a special penance called Aacharaj and by virtue of which he had subdued his anger and desire.


He ever worshipped Lord Shankar and never for a moment concentrated his mind on You.Since He did not realise your immense glory, all His powers waned and then He repented hitherto.Then He sought refuge in You, chanted Your glory and 'victory, victory, victory to Thee, O Jagadamba Bhavani'.Then, O Primal Goddess Jagadamba Ji, You were propitiated and in no time You bestowed Him with his lost powers.


O Mother! Severe afflictions distress me and no one except Your Honoured Self can provide relief please end my afflictions. Hopes and longings ever torture me.


All sorts of passions and lust ever torment my heart.O Goddess Bhavani! I meditate only upon you Please kill my enemies O Queen! O Merciful Mother! Show me your favour and make me feel happy by bestowing me with all sorts of riches and powers.O Mother! May I be receptable of Your grace as long as I live, ever recounting the feats of Your Glory to all.This way, whoever sings this Durga Chalisa shall ever enjoy all sorts of pleasures and shall attain the highest state in the end.

The holy Ganges flows from your matted hair. The saints and sages are attracted by Your splendid appearance. Around Your neck is a garland of skulls. White ash beautifies Your Divine form and clothing of lion's skin adorns Your body.

O Lord, the beloved daughter of Maina on Your left adds to Your splendid appearance. O Wearer of the lion's skin, the trishul in Your hand destroys all enemies.

Nandi and Shri Ganesh along with Lord Shiva appear as beautiful as two lotuses in the middle of an ocean.Poets and philosophers cannot describe the wonderful appearance of Lord Kartikeya and the dark complexioned Ganas (attendants).

Glory be unto You O Gracious, Infinite, Immortal, All-pervading Lord. Evil thoughts torture me and I keep on travelling aimlessly in this world of mundane existence. No relief seems to be coming my way.

O Lord! I beseech Your help and seel your divine blessing at this very moment. Save and protect me. Destroy my enemies with Your Trishul. Release me from the torture of evil thoughts.

Svami Ek Hai Asha Tumhari

O Lord, when I am in distress, neither my parents, brothers, sisters nor loved ones can relieve my suffering. I depend only on You. You are my hpe. Eliminate the cause of this tremendous torture and bless me with Your compassion.

O Lord, You bless the down-trodden with prosperity and grant wisdom to the ignorant. Lord, due to my limited knowledge, I omitted to worship Thee. Please forgive me and shower Your grace upon me.

Sharad Narad Shisha Navavain
O Lord Sankar, You are the destroyer of all miseries. You remove the cause of all obstacles and grant Your devotees eternal bliss. The saints ans sages meditate upon Thy most beautiful form. Even celestial beings like Sharad and Narad bow in reverence to You.

Sura Brahmadik Par Na Paya
Jo Yah Patha Karai Man Lai
Tapar Hota Hai Shambhu Saha-I
O Lord, prostrations to You. Even Brahma is unable to describe Thy greatness. Whosoever recites these verses with faith and devotion receives Your infinite blessings.
Riniyan Jo Koi Ho Adhikari
Patha Karai So Pavan Hari
Putra-hin Ichchha Kar Koi
Nischaya Shiva Prasad Tehin Hoi
Devotees who chant these verses with intense love become prosperous by the grace of Lord Shiva. Even the childless wishing to have children, have their desires fulfilled after partaking of Shiva-prasad with faith and devotion.

Trayodashi Vrat Kare Hamesha
Tan Nahin Take Rahe Kalesha
On Trayodashi (13th day of the dark and bright fortnights) one should invite a pandit and devotely make offerings to Lord Shiva. Those who fast and pray to Lord Shiva on Trayodashi are always healthy and prosperous.

Jani Sakal Dukha Harahu Hamari
Whosoever offers incense, prasad and performs arti to Lord Shiva, with love and devotion, enjoys material happiness and spiritual bliss in this world and hereafter ascends to the abode of Lord Shiva. The poet prays that Lord Shiva removed the suffering of all and grants them eternal bliss.
